CHARITY EVENT AT RADISSON SAS MANCHESTER AIRPORT

Musicians and soap stars turned out in force to help teenager Kirsty Ashton realise her dream of sending 100 seriously ill children on the trip of a lifetime, the Manchester Evening news reports. X Factor band Eton Road and Happy Mondays singer Rowetta were among the 200 guests at the glitzy fund-raising ball at the Radisson SAS Hotel at Manchester Airport.

Kirsty, 17, from Wythenshawe, suffers from the rare nerve condition neurofibromatosis. She has metal rods fitted in her back to help support her spine and needs regular treatment. But she has dedicated her time to raising £65,000 to send terminally ill youngsters to Lapland to meet Father Christmas, through the charity, When You Wish Upon A Star.

She organised Saturday's ball, supported by sponsors Copyshop of Cheadle, which featured entertainment from Eton Road, the Mersey Beatles and Stockport comedian Vince Miller. Kirsty went on a life-changing holiday with the charity when she was nine and has raised £43,000 over the past 3 years.
