PLANE DIVERTED AFTER CO PILOT DEATH

A GB Airways plane was forced to divert to Turkey after the co-pilot died in mid-flight. The holiday flight was carrying 156 passengers from Manchester Airport to Paphos in Cyprus yesterday.

The captain of GB Airways flight BA 6826, operated using an Airbus A320, landed in Istanbul at 17:45 after what was termed a medical emergency on the flight deck.

The co-pilot was pronounced dead once the plane had landed. A spokesman for the airline said that passengers were never in danger. They will be flown to Cyprus today.
