How to Book Meet and Greet Parking Effectively

Over the last two years chauffeur parking and valet parking, otherwise know as meet and greet parking has received a lot of bad press. This article explains what should be done in order to ensure, if using this type of service, your vehicle is looked after in the way that is expected and paid for.

Meet and greet parking is a system of parking that allows the customer a stress free way to park their vehicle when travelling from an airport. Instead of the traditional park and ride facility whereby the customer drives direct to the car park and is transported to the terminal on a transport coach, they drive direct to the airport terminal and have their car collected. Upon the customers return their vehicle is waiting for them where they left it. Hassle free and no waiting for transfer coaches. Just simply walk outside jump in your vehicle and off you go.

All sounds good doesn’t it? It’s what happens next that can be worrying for the customer. It has been documented that some car parks can be up to and more than 10 miles away from the airport thus putting up to 20 miles onto the cars mileage.

Ask yourself this question? Is the car park where your vehicle is being kept secure enough? Is the driver insured to drive your vehicle? Is your vehicle actually being stored in a car park or on the side of a road?

All very scary and will no doubt put you off using such a service. Unfortunately there are operators out there who cannot answer the above questions satisfactorily and should be avoided at all costs. It is these operators that have given valet parking a bad name. Chauffeur parking is an excellent service and should not be forgotten about. With prices coming down everyday it’s still worth using this type of service, and with a little bit of care you can find an excellent provider. Below is a brief guide on how to find a reputable meet and greet provider.

The Right Meet and Greet provider

Use a comparison site - Comparison sites have more than one car park available and usually research their car parks before allowing them to advertise on their site.
Always check the more info pages on a site - All reputable comparison sites should have more information on all the car parks that they advertise. These details should include such things as security details, insurance details, disabled facilities and more. If there are not any more info pages you should avoid the site.
  • Look for review pages - Reviews are always useful to find out what other people thought about each car park.
  • Don’t just book on price - This might sound ridiculous but the cheapest car park isn’t always the best. Ensure you take on board all of the above when making your choice.
  • Ask Questions - Email the company and ask questions about insurance and security details. Any reputable company will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
  • Make sure your vehicle is checked – When you are handing your car over; ensure that the driver checks your vehicle and notes any damage. Always make sure you sign and agree any damage to your vehicle before leaving it.
  • Check your vehicle upon your return - Always check your vehicle on your return against the signed check sheet that was filled in upon your departure. It is vitally important to report any new damage at this point as once you have driven away you are less likely to be able to process a successful claim.

Meet and Greet parking is growing every day due to how convenient it is for the customer. Don’t be put off by what you may have heard in the past, just follow the seven points above to ensure your vehicle is looked after in the correct way that will allow you to enjoy meet and greet parking the way it was intended...HASSLE FREE.

Cutting Down queuing times at Manchester Airport

We have all experienced the nightmare of the check in desk when travelling from any airport let alone Manchester. The long queues, slow check in personnel and the family in front that have numerous children who are all excited about going on holiday and who’s parents cannot find their passports without emptying hundreds of bags first.

None of this helps to get your holiday off to a stress free start like you deserve. Manchester Airport is one of the biggest airports in the UK and along with the likes of Jet2.com, BMI Baby and various other airlines they have come up with various ways to reduce check in times. Read on to find out how to beat the queues at Manchester.

Online Check In

Online check in normally opens 24 hours prior to flight departure and is available from various airlines that fly out of Manchester Airport, a list of which can be found in the resource section at the bottom of this article. This service is only available for passengers travelling with hand luggage only, and all the usual security restrictions still apply.

Express Check In

Online check in is the brainchild of the airlines whereas Express Check in is Manchester Airports contribution to speeding things up. This system is advertised by Manchester Airport as “no queues no hassle”. All sounds to good to be true but in reality this service is a lifesaver and a long time in coming.

Express check-in kiosks can be found scattered all around the departure lounges at Manchester Airport and are brightly coloured for easy spotting. There all touch screen and extremely easy to use. All you need to do is input your passport, e-ticket or credit card number, follow the on screen instructions and produce your own boarding pass. All that is left for you to do then is drop your luggage off at the designated drop off point and head straight for security.

Sounds to simple and puts a lot of people off as they are required to process their booking themselves. Fear not. The kiosks are designed with simplicity in mind and are all touch screen with clear and easy to follow instructions. A dedicated member of staff is always at hand to assist you in the use of these machines so there really is no need to worry about making a mistake.

Online and express check in has categorically reduced waiting times at Manchester Airport and will continue to reduce them as long as people continue to use them. These services are not advertised nearly enough by Manchester Airport or the airlines so it is important to spread the word.

Long queues plague the airport industry Globally. The UK is lucky enough to have a handful of some the best and most efficient airports worldwide Manchester being one of them. Anybody who has travelled back from another European airport will no doubt agree with this.

I’m sure there are variations on Express and Online check in through out the world so let’s hope that all airports take a leaf out of Manchester’s book and adopt them sooner rather than later.

MANCHESTER AIRPORT INTRODUCE AIRPORT CARE TEAMS: MF AIRPORT PARKING

Airports are better equipped to deal with traumatised customers than ever before, thanks to the introduction of airport care teams. Speaking at the ABTA Crisis Management seminar last week, Eclypse consultant Phil Warren, who deals with emergency planning and training, said the teams are made up from volunteer staff members and there are now three in the UK based at Cardiff, Belfast and Manchester Airport.

Mr Warren said each of the teams has been set up after recent incidents proved a need for them. He said that travel firms should start building bonds with them now, so that they are prepared should they need assistance in dealing with their customers in a crisis.

He said that the Cardiff Airport based team has dealt with a number of varied incidents from a departing holidaymaker who started self-harming following an argument with her boyfriend to caring for a man whose elderly wife died as the plane they had boarded took off.

PILOT REMOVED FROM FLYING DUTIES: MF AIRPORT PARKING

A pilot and co-pilot with Hong Kong airline Dragonair have been removed from flying duties after a Boeing 747-400 freighter plane damaged three of its four engines landing at Manchester Airport in high winds, the airline said today. The plane burst a tyre and its engines were badly damaged as it touched down at 01:27 last Saturday on what was understood to have been a second attempt following one fly-around because of the severe gusts.

Neither the captain nor the first officer on board the Dragonair jet was injured in the incident. The cowlings, or covers, of three of the Boeing's four engines were damaged. An investigation has been launched into the accident, which took place on a day of severe windstorms across Europe.
The accident involved a flight from Dubai to Manchester operating on a Cathay Pacific freighter route wet-leased to Dragonair - meaning Cathay Pacific hired the plane and cockpit crew from Dragonair. Only the captain and co-pilot were on board the flight. The runway at Manchester Airport was closed for almost an hour as debris from the accident was cleared away. The damage to the Boeing is expected to take weeks to repair.

A Dragonair spokeswoman stressed that the two pilots, understood to include a female captain, had not been formally suspended. She said it was ‘normal practice’ for crew to be removed from duty after an accident to assist the investigation. She added: ‘Also, sometimes crew involved might experience stress from the incident and are in need of professional counselling prior to returning to flying duties.'

The Dragonair spokeswoman said the airline was cooperating with British civil aviation officials as they investigated the accident. She added that Dragonair expected the aircraft, which is undergoing repairs in Manchester, to be back in service by the third week of March.

CITY AIRPORT MANCHESTER

Peel Holdings' airports division hopes to create Manchester's second commercial airport, at Barton Aerodrome. It recently renamed the Aerodrome as City Airport Manchester, and is hoping to turn it into a hub for business aviation.

Managing director Andrew Simpson said there was 'no question' of the new facility rivaling Manchester Airport, but would complement services at the city's main hub. He said ‘We are in discussions about making City Airport Manchester a business and general aviation airport.'
'There has been a massive rise in business travel, with executives using small corporate jets as they are quicker. Manchester Airport is very busy with larger jets and international airlines, and it is not an effective use of its facilities to have small aircraft going through there.’

Peel owns the land with Manchester city council and the plans hinge on how the development would be funded. Mr Simpson said: ‘We're at an early stage, assessing how to make it happen. It would need new facilities and a new runway.'

'We believe the development of City Airport Manchester is important from a regional point of view. If Manchester is going to be a world class business city it needs to have easily accessible facilities for scheduled airlines and also for smaller jets’

NOISE PROTEST AT MANCHESTER AIRPORT

Campaigners from Manchester No Borders held a 'noise protest' yesterday to highlight the construction company that will carry out the planned expansion of the immigration detention centre at Manchester Airport. Carillion plc have been awarded contracts to carry out the work, and protesters staged a short but noisy protest outside the Manchester offices of the company, drawing attention to the planned expansion of the detention facility and of Carillion’s involvement.

Banners were attached to the compound’s fencing before security guards called the police. When a police van arrived 10 minutes later, the small group of protesters were quickly dispersed. A spokesman for the group said that few were stopped by the police, who wrote down their descriptions.

The detention centre at Manchester Airport is a short-term holding facility, contracted to Group 4 Securicor. It is intended to hold passengers detained by airport immigration staff for further questioning or those who have been refused permission to enter the country and are awaiting removal on another flight.

However, the group claim that its main function is currently as a staging post for detainees being transferred from one place of detention to another, and from detention centres in the North to airports in the South.

The construction work is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks, and will see the centre’s holding capacity increase from 16 to 32. This is in line with the government’s plans to increase detention capacity from 2,500 to 4,000.

MANCHESTER AIRPORT TRIES TO SAVE NEWTS

Manchester Airport has spent a staggering £1m to save newts, the Manchester Evening News reports. The council owned airport has spent the money over the last five years to protect newts living around Runway 2.

According to the newspaper, even before the £172m runway opened in February 2001, more than £3m was spent re-homing 4,500 great crested newts and more than 30,000 other amphibians. Another £½m has been spent since 2005 protecting newts, bats and other rare species. The money has been spent to comply with European laws.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: ‘We have a 15 year plan to maintain and protect all ecological species - especially protected great crested newts, bats and badgers.

RE OPENING OF ROAD AFTER BRIDGE WORK

Outwood Lane, which leads to and from Terminals 1 and 3 at Manchester Airport , reopened last night instead of on Monday (March 3) as planned, after bridge work was completed earlier than scheduled. Network Rail contractors Carillion rolled a new road-over-rail bridge into place 5 days ahead of schedule.

The £15m project to build the concrete bridge alongside the existing station at the airport is a crucial step in the programme to build a third platform. A spokesman for network rail said that it will relieve congestion and improve operational flexibility, leading to better punctuality and reliability of trains.

CELEBRATION OF SUCCESSFUL CARGO CENTRE FROM MF AIRPORT PARKING

Manchester Airport is celebrating a strong year for its cargo business, with volumes increasing 10.3% to 166,500 tonnes. In an interview with International Freighting Weekly, the airport's cargo manager, Michael O'Connor, described the achievement as ‘incredible’ given that the UK market as a whole has seen little growth over the last 12 months.

He said: ‘While growth early in the year was modest, it was the momentum gained from the five new freighter services that we attracted from spring onwards that gave a significant boost to our volumes as the year progressed.’

Carriers starting new freighter services to Manchester last year included Chinese cargo airline Great Wall Airlines, Singapore-based cargo airline Jett8, FedEx Express, Air China Cargo and Aeroflot Cargo.
