TOP 10 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BOOKING AND USING AIRPORT PARKING IN THE UK

• posted by Mark Farrell on Tuesday, 22 September 2009 19:25

Heathrow Airport Parking, Gatwick Airport Parking, Liverpool Airport Parking, each airport has different parking facilities all of which can make it difficult to decide which parking provider to choose. This article explains what to look out for when deciding who to leave your vehicle with when you take that trip, be it for pleasure or business.

The tips below are in no particular order, as all are in valuable when parking:

Distance To The Airport
Just how far is your chosen car park from the airport you are travelling from? This is an important factor as this will depend on what time you have to leave for the airport. Generally the further away, the cheaper the price.

Insurance
Always check what sort of insurance the car park has. Some less reputable companies out there will not have any insurance at all, so if anything happened to your car you wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Car parks do not generally advertise their level of insurance so make sure you ask. If they are reluctant to tell you then avoid them like the plague as generally there will be a reason for that.

Security
Just how secure is your vehicle? Most car parks will give a brief outline of their security measures by stating things such as 24 hour security, perimeter fencing etc. These sort of statements can be hugely exaggerated so again, please ask the question. Companies with nothing to hide will not have a problem telling you.

Awards
There are many safe parking awards out there such as the Police Park Mark award. These are given out buy the local police in reward for meeting their stringent parking safety standards. Some companies advertise the fact that different car parks have them and some dont. Its worth booking with a car park that has won awards as they have gone that extra mile to ensure your vehicle is safe.

Car Location
Some car parks offering Edinburgh Airport Parking & Stansted Airport Parking have recently been in the media because they were found out by under cover journalists to be moving vehicles once they have been parked up. The customers believed their vehicles were in the same place when in actual fact car park staff and owners were moving them from place to place. With the introduction of tracking devices it is becoming increasingly difficult to get away with this. One sure fire way to avoid this is to insist on a written mileage check when leaving your vehicle and check it when you collect.

Shuttle Frequency
Car parks offering a park and ride service will generally have a shuttle service running. Make sure you check whether it is a dedicated transfer or a shuttle bus that runs continually. If the service is a continuous service then you could be waiting some time both ends to be taken to the airport or dropped back off at the car park.

Damage to your vehicle
This is hugely important. Always get a written record of damage when leaving your vehicle and always check it upon your return. If you do see any damage please make sure you report it before you leave the car park. The reason for this is that most companies will not accept liabilty for any damage claimed after the vehicle leaves the car park.

Price
Remember not to go for a company purely based on price. The cheapest isn't always the best. The old adage also applies to airport parking - you definately get what you pay for.

Reviews
Most booking agents have a review section on their websites. You will find good feedback and bad feedback here. Make a point of spending a reasonable amount of time reading these reviews as these reviews are from real people who have used the service before. This tip is probably the best tip of all of the tips in this article. After your trip has finished, remember to leave a review of your chosen car park so as to help others make the correct decision for their parking provider.

Disabled and Child Facilities
This may seem obvious but a lot of people just take it as sorted. If choosing a meet and greet parking provider there is no need to check for disabled or child facilities as you will be in your own vehicle. If however you choose a park and ride facility make sure they carry a range of child safety seats to suit the age of your children and also that their vehicles have wheel chair access.

There are many many more things to check when choosing and experiencing airport parking no matter which airport you are travelling from. By following the above guidelines though, you shouldnt go far wrong.

How to Book Meet and Greet Parking Effectively

Over the last two years chauffeur parking and valet parking, otherwise know as meet and greet parking has received a lot of bad press. This article explains what should be done in order to ensure, if using this type of service, your vehicle is looked after in the way that is expected and paid for.

Meet and greet parking is a system of parking that allows the customer a stress free way to park their vehicle when travelling from an airport. Instead of the traditional park and ride facility whereby the customer drives direct to the car park and is transported to the terminal on a transport coach, they drive direct to the airport terminal and have their car collected. Upon the customers return their vehicle is waiting for them where they left it. Hassle free and no waiting for transfer coaches. Just simply walk outside jump in your vehicle and off you go.

All sounds good doesn’t it? It’s what happens next that can be worrying for the customer. It has been documented that some car parks can be up to and more than 10 miles away from the airport thus putting up to 20 miles onto the cars mileage.

Ask yourself this question? Is the car park where your vehicle is being kept secure enough? Is the driver insured to drive your vehicle? Is your vehicle actually being stored in a car park or on the side of a road?

All very scary and will no doubt put you off using such a service. Unfortunately there are operators out there who cannot answer the above questions satisfactorily and should be avoided at all costs. It is these operators that have given valet parking a bad name. Chauffeur parking is an excellent service and should not be forgotten about. With prices coming down everyday it’s still worth using this type of service, and with a little bit of care you can find an excellent provider. Below is a brief guide on how to find a reputable meet and greet provider.

The Right Meet and Greet provider

Use a comparison site - Comparison sites have more than one car park available and usually research their car parks before allowing them to advertise on their site.
Always check the more info pages on a site - All reputable comparison sites should have more information on all the car parks that they advertise. These details should include such things as security details, insurance details, disabled facilities and more. If there are not any more info pages you should avoid the site.
  • Look for review pages - Reviews are always useful to find out what other people thought about each car park.
  • Don’t just book on price - This might sound ridiculous but the cheapest car park isn’t always the best. Ensure you take on board all of the above when making your choice.
  • Ask Questions - Email the company and ask questions about insurance and security details. Any reputable company will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
  • Make sure your vehicle is checked – When you are handing your car over; ensure that the driver checks your vehicle and notes any damage. Always make sure you sign and agree any damage to your vehicle before leaving it.
  • Check your vehicle upon your return - Always check your vehicle on your return against the signed check sheet that was filled in upon your departure. It is vitally important to report any new damage at this point as once you have driven away you are less likely to be able to process a successful claim.

Meet and Greet parking is growing every day due to how convenient it is for the customer. Don’t be put off by what you may have heard in the past, just follow the seven points above to ensure your vehicle is looked after in the correct way that will allow you to enjoy meet and greet parking the way it was intended...HASSLE FREE.

Meet and Greet AIrport Parking

Meet and Greet, Valet, Chauffeur are all exactly the same service and this article gives the low down on exactly what can be expected if you book this kind of service.

Meet and greet parking essentially has come about to make the parking process a whole lot simpler for the customer and to cut down on waiting time.

With Meet and greet the customer drives directly to the airport terminal they are flying from for an agreed time. The time is usually agreed between the customer and the parking provider in advance. Approximately fifteen minutes before the arrival the customer generally is advised to call the airport parking provider. This call prompts the airport parking provider to get themselves of to the designated meeting point, thus cutting down waiting time for both parties.

The airport parking provider once in contact should do a thorough inspection of the vehicle making a note of all dints, scratches and general damage to the vehicle. After the inspection they should give the customer a note to sign for the damage. This process simply covers the airport parking provider against any fraudulent insurance claims.

Once the inspection process is completed the airport parking provider will explain to the customer the arrival procedure for their return. This can vary between provider but basically is as simple as to call a specific number once they have collected their luggage and make there way to a designated are where their car will be waiting.

At this point the customer should check the car over and ensure that the only damage on the vehicle is the agreed damage that they signed for on their departure. It is at this point that the customer must report any damage as once the car has been driven away the airport parking provider may not accept liability for any extra damage so be careful. For more details on this please check out the airport parking providers terms and conditions.

Overall Meet and greet airport parking is a much more user friendly service but with all businesses there are sharks out there so be sure to check out the airport parking provider carefully. MF Airport Parking ltd are local to Manchester Airport and offer Manchester Airport Parking only. As we are a local company we are familiar with all of the airport parking providers we use and can guarantee their professionalism. We are always on hand to answer any questions you may have about any of the Manchester Airport Parking car parks we offer so please feel free to email us at info@mfairportparking.com
