Stansted Easy Parking

If you are flying from a close by airport you may wish to consider our - London City Airport Parking, Luton Airport Parking, Heathrow Airport Parking or Gatwick Airport Parking options
Consisting of just one terminal and one runway it is an incredibly busy airport due to the high demand for low-cost air travel. Thankfully the airport is able to cope due it’s intelligent design, which allows easy passage from the short stay car park, through check in and security to the departure gates. As a result of the persistent increase in demand, Stansted is currently one of the fastest growing airports in Europe. As well as being the base for more Ryanair flights than any other airport, it is also the third largest freight airport in the UK.
Stansted Airport is owned and run by BAA, it was however ruled by the UK Competition Commission in March of 2009 that the airport must be sold in the next two years.
The retai l before check-in perfectly caters for all those last minute holiday essentials, with branches of Accessorize, Boots, Rolling Luggage, Spar and WH Smith amongst others. Once you’ve passed through security the obligatory familiar brands like Body Shop, HMV and Dixons are complimented by an array of higher end retailers such as Mulberry, Kurt Geiger, Swarovski and Hackett. Just to complete the shopping experience, Stansted also offers exciting gift purchasing opportunities courtesy of Hamleys, Glorious Britain, World Duty Free and World of Whiskies. With this broad selection of stores, the airport ticks all the boxes for both avid shoppers and those looking to wile away the time before boarding their flight.
Prior to going through security Stansted’s eating and drinking options side mostly towards the speedy, with offerings from Caffé Alba, Krispy Kreme, Lovejuice, Ponti’s and Pret A Manger. There is however also the more leisurely option of the hearty dishes and craic to be found at O’Neill’s Irish pub.
On the other side of the check-in desk those in a hurry are still catered for by Est Presso, F&B’s Deli, Giraffe Juice and Millie’s Cookies but there are also establishments for those wishing to relax and dine in style such as Caviar House & Prunier Seafood Bar, Frankie & Benny’s and The Windmill. Those travellers looking for more of a liquid lunch may prefer the elegant surroundings and sumptuous cocktails available from Est Bar: who also offer antipasti platters and sandwiches for those who’d rather not fly on an empty stomach.
Stansted Airport rail station is situated immediately below the terminal building and regular services link the airport to central and east London, the Midlands and eastern England. The Stansted Express service departs every 15 minutes to and from London Liverpool Street station. It is however worth noting that the Express class single fare comes in at £18 so National Express and EasyBus services may be a more affordable option for those with minimal luggage and utilising an airport car park is strongly advised for those travelling less lightly or with children in tow.
The airfield at Stansted first opened in 1943 and served as a bomber airfield and maintenance depot for both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Force during World War II. Immediately after the war, the site was used as storage for the RAF and also between March 1946 and August 1947: as housing for German prisoners of war.
The airport was handed over to civil use initially in 1949 before being considered for a possible transfer to NATO in 1954, this didn’t materialise and in 1957 the airport returned to civil use for good. When placed under BAA control in 1966 Stansted became the home of holiday charter airlines who wished to take advantage of the lower costs compared to Gatwick and Heathrow.
In 1984 plans were drawn up to fully develop Stansted such that it’s capacity would reach 15 million passengers a year. This construction eventually began in 1988, with the current incarnation of the airport being unveiled in 1991.
The airport has operated under rules regulating capacity to 25 million passengers per annum since 1984, although expansion plans are very much in progress.
Stansted has been designated as the preferred airport for hijacked planes requesting to land due to the potential to isolate a hijacked craft a safe distance from terminal buildings. In accordance with this airport staff have been specifically trained to handle such scenarios.
